It has been noted that cases of online violence against Women in Namibia have been on the increase over the years. Research that the Internet Society Namibia Chapter (ISOCNamibia) conducted in partnership with the Web Foundation in 2020 indicates that the violence is mostly due to inadequate legislation to protect women and girls online. ISOC applauds the Namibian government for its efforts to develop a draft Data Protection Bill that is said to be at various stages at the moment. [Click here to access the draft Bill]
Against this background stakeholders working in the areas of Gender, Technology and Public Interest are invited to assess the depth of gender consideration in the draft bill, given the scourge of this “new weapon” against women and girls.
